Ghostwoman

Three Hills, AB

Duo Evan Uschenko and Ille Van Dessel draw musical inspiration from garage rock and psychedelia, with the final result being an indie rock sound that's menacing and seductive; thumping authentically in its execution. With rambling, dreamy songs – a little bit slacker, a little bit rock and roll – GHOSTWOMAN lets fuzztone do the heavy lifting rather than adding tons of layers, so the music stays crisp-edged even when it’s chill. After playing with other people’s bands, they released their 2022 self-titled first album on the U.K.’s Full Time Hobby label. As the writer, producer and mixer, Uschenko showed he could fill all the Viles sounding like Television ran over a Nuggets compilation at high speed in reverse. In January 2023, Anne, If was released followed by Hindsight is 50/50. That’s three albums in 18 months, recorded without preconceptions. The band says they are now closer than ever to their artistic vision. The latest album looms darker and heavier than its predecessors; one of those albums to sink into completely.

And that is, of course, best done live.
